Supporting Your Child With Spelling and Grammar…

The National Curriculum for English (2014) places a very significant emphasis on SPaG (spelling and grammar). For each year group there are word lists, spelling rules/patterns, grammar and technical vocabulary. Weekly homework activities link to these areas and regular practise is really important.

Once a fortnight children receive a spelling sheet with the spelling rule/pattern on, a list of spellings to practise and learn, and 2 words from the statutory word list to practise and learn. Children have a spelling test once a fortnight. Teachers and children look for correct spelling within independent work as it is important that spellings are learnt and applied.

Below are some resources that will help you to understand what the curriculum expectations are and enable you to help your child at home.
